Mid-Western Nationals

mwn_artworkThroughout the year Goodguys is fortunate enough to be able to gather in some of the coolest places in the country. Some of the more dynamic venues are the NASCAR speedways that open their doors and even let us drive on the track. For 10 years the Mid-Western Nationals in Kansas City, Kansas has been a favorite event for thousands of people, and the Kansas Speedway has become a cultivating area for priceless hot rodding memories.

In addition to gathering some of the nation’s coolest cars, the famed tri-oval lends an exciting array of active options as well. For starters, the coned course of the AutoCross in the infield gave any registered participant whose car passes a basic tech inspection the chance to beat the clock and their friends for bragging rights and a shot at a new set of tires and other prizes.

The track’s 15-degree turns were also available for exploration by participants in their own cars during the official Track Cruise. For those wanting the full effect, the Richard Petty Driving Experience was on hand with a fleet of real racecars and professional drivers. Blasting out of the turn a few feet from the wall and rocketing to speeds in excess of 160 has to be felt to be completely understood and appreciated.

Of course the Vendor Row and Swap Meet & Car Corral were present and accounted for, brimming with things you needed or didn’t know that you needed until you saw them, and there was a wide assortment of activities throughout the weekend for the family to see and do.

Goodguys’ new Super Sunday program that follows the California-based Get-Togethers’ “all years American made or powered cars” on Sunday was a huge success, attracting a wide assortment of later model cars and ages of owners.

With one impressive decade of fun and excitement fading into the rearview, please join us in 2012, August 31st through September 2nd, as we start down the backstretch of another fun-filled decade of good times. Bring your friends and your cars, and we’ll see ya there!
