Summer Get-Together

summer_artworkGoodguys likes to kick off the days of summer right in their own backyard with the Summer Get Together. Now in its 17th year, the Pleasanton Fairgrounds once again filled with a wide assortment of American made or powered automobiles of all years.

The Get-Togethers are special two-day events that give car nuts a chance to show off their later model iron and to mix it up with the rest of the car culture. Coupled with perfect early-summer Nor-Cal weather, the combination always results in a great time.

Of course the Swap Meet & Car Corral is a popular first stop for many participants and both areas were filled to capacity with cool items and worthy vehicles. You truly never know what you will find until you look.

After loading up on goodies, there were plenty of cars to look at, and the staff was busy selecting cars for Sunday’s Winners Circle, including a Muscle Car and Muscle Machine finalist for their on-going competitions.

Inside, one could see a special Concours d’ Elegance display of vintage classic cars, a gathering of the Golden Gate Street Machines Unlimited club, a pin striper’s Brush Bash, a host of vendors, the Goodgals Gallery and a Model & Pedal Car display.

Back outside, the revving of engines and screeching of tires called folks over to the Street Challenge Autocross, an event that is rapidly growing in popularity with both spectators and participants. As a special treat, the Tri-Valley Quarter Midgets held exhibition races on a parking lot course. These cool little cars are raced by kids between the ages of 5 and 16 and were a blast to watch.

The weekend wound down on Sunday afternoon as the winners paraded through the Awards Show ceremony to collect their awards while being admired by the crowd.
If you are in the Bay Area of Northern California, and want to spend the weekend with a vast assortment of cool cars and nice people, the next all-years Get-Together is the Autumn Get Together. Mark the weekend of November 13 and 14th down on your calendars and make plans to bring your friends to the Pleasanton Fairgrounds. We’ll hold a parking spot for you.
